Description	This week I'm taking a moment to look back in recognition of the 6th anniversary of this mental health and advocacy blog, which I started in early December 2014. Here are a few quick stats to recap my activity over the past 6 years: Over 300 postsOver 330,000 words written (the equivalent of 5-6 medium-length books)Over 310,000 visitors from 200 countriesOver 435,000 page views (I've also had a little over 300,000 additional views on my companion blog on Psychology Today) This year I featured 15 more people in my "Stories of Hope" series, interviews with people who share their mental health challenges and recovery journeys. I recently reached a significant milestone, as I've now published over 100 interviews in this series. One thing is immediately clear from talking with all these terrific folks in the series. The journey of recovery is different for everyone, and it keeps changing throughout each person's life. In this respect, recovery is a process, not a destination. At some point in the near future, I plan to say more about some of the many helpful lessons learned from these extraordinary individuals. It's fair to say that this year, 2020, has been like no other in the 6 years I've been blogging. As a result of the pandemic, 16 of the posts I published this year were directly focused on COVID-19, and particularly how it has impacted our collective mental health. I have also continued my focus on mental health advocacy and promotion of better mental health, writing about topics including: Anti-racism resources and promoting mental health in BIPOC populationsMental health resources for college studentsCombating misinformation in political mediaSupporting mental health recovery in the workplacePromoting civic engagement among people with mental health concernsProminent public figures who are mental health advocatesNAMI's "Family to Family" education programMental health benefits of being a volunteerHealth benefits of humor and laughterQuestions to ask a potential new psychotherapist I've done my best to stay active by promoting content through my companion sites on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn. I've been fortunate to appear on some great podcasts and radio shows, and continue to greatly appreciate the relationships I've forged with mental health advocates from around the world. But I can't leave 2020 behind without a few personal thoughts. This year has been incredibly challenging for all of us, on multiple levels--personally, financially, and emotionally. It has upended our work, school, and social interactions and has disrupted many of our typical activities. I and my family have been blessed, as we have been able to stay safe and healthy and to maintain our participation in our jobs and school. But we have seen so many people suffer greatly and this has been heartbreaking. There is also a sense that in some ways, we, as a society, could have done better. Perhaps we could have had a quicker and better coordinated response to the pandemic. And perhaps we could have provided clearer public health messaging to enable more people to follow the recommended guidelines needed to slow the transmission of the virus. I have also been greatly troubled by the institutional racism and political strife which has caused additional deep wounds in the fabric of our society. I yearn for a culture and a community which upholds equity, kindness and compassion for our brothers and sisters who have been marginalized and oppressed for far too long. I also hope for a day when both sides of the political aisle can come together to address the many pressing issues we will face in the months and years ahead. I've often said that advocacy, whether it is focused on mental health, or on any noble cause, requires becoming well informed about the issues and then taking appropriate and reasoned actions to right wrongs and injustices.
